PFA President awarded Australia Police Medal in Queens Birthday Honours

The awarding of the Australia Police Medal (APM) to Police Federation of Australia National President Senior Sergeant Vince Kelly from the Northern Territory was announced yesterday in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

After being notified of the award Senior Sergeant Kelly said, “I feel a sense of pride and humility in equal measures in receiving this award.  While this is an individual award the fact is operational policing is a team environment and the individual achieves nothing without the support of those around them, including family members.  The same applies to Police Associations and Unions which have dominated my life for the last ten years.  I believe this award is recognition of the important role of police in society and police associations and unions in promoting professional and accountable Police Forces.  I am happy to accept this award on behalf of the hundreds of committed operational police who make countless sacrifices every day, often without recognition.  Equally there have been many Police Union and Association officials over the last 100 years who have not been publicly recognised for their contribution to policing and the community – again I am happy to accept this award in recognition of them all”.
