PFA Welcomes Minister O'Connor's Announcement of Enhanced Workers Compensation Benefits for Australian Police Serving Overseas
Tue, 04/05/2010 - 12:38
The PFA has been lobbying successive Federal Governments to provide enhanced workers compensation and rehabilitation benefits to Australian Police serving overseas including appearing before several Parliamentary Inquiries. Minister O’Connor has advised the PFA (click here to view letter) that new interim arrangements will allow Australian Police to access benefits similar to defence force personnel.
The PFA will continue to lobby the Federal Government to formalise those arrangements by a legislative stand-alone compensation scheme for Australia’s police serving overseas. We acknowledge that such an arrangement will not be likely until the final report of the Review of Military Compensation Arrangements is developed for Cabinet consideration some time later this year.
